NAME:
Rob Mackenzie
BORN:
Coventry 25-6-67
STAR
SIGN: Cancer
SCHOOL:
John Cleveland College, Hinckley, Leicestershire
FIRST
BAND: Frozen Ocean at school
MUSICAL
INFLUENCES: Hendrix, Black Sabbath, Van Halen, but has now
mellowed. Learned guitar at 11 - got it off by 11.30.
First professional tour was in Germany
in 1983 aged just 16 (didn't fancy working for a living).
Joined the band as a roadie, then progressed onto the follow
spot. When the sound engineer moved on, he was pushed into
mixing the band, and still managed to operate the follow
spot with his other hand !
Finally at the grand age of 18 when the guitar player left,
he was promoted to the stage, whereupon he promptly hid
behind his amplifier for the first 3 months.
Having
a talent which belied his age, and knowing the show backwards
Rob was ideal for the position. Although many have tried
to tempt him into the world of "rock band" he has remained
steadfastly loyal to Smackee. His guitar style adds a distinctive
edge to Smackee's sound, and his versatility put to good
use. Rob was a John Taylor look alike, always wearing his
hair shoulder length, and occasionally he has been known
to wash it! Rob has steadily evolved into a steadfast member
of the band and enjoys the challenge of not only showing
off his guitar skills but also plays keyboards. Rob loves
to get out front, especially in The ABBA Show where he plays
BJORN.
HOBBIES:
Music, Football, Socialising (see left). Enjoys his life
gigging and socialising, supports Man U and is always annoying
the neighbours by playing his guitar late at night. Rob's
ambition in life is to remain single for as long as possible.
